Chicago Gourmets

Housesit number 3 so far in Chicago for two weeks. The flat we stay in is located in the Westloop and
it is the most unpersonal flat I have ever seen. Therefor it feels more like a a big hotel room rather than a home. Also the building is equipped with a rooftop pool, gym, yoga room and free coffee facilities. The dogs we get to sit can be described as big white cloud and smaller black cloud. Both, Jojo and Theo are super fluffly, playfull and cute. They especially like to wake us up every morning with a lot of cuddles and taking them on long walks in the city is fun although everybody always wants to pet them.

Chicago is heaven for food lovers (like me)

Looking back it feels like all we did in Chicago is walk the dogs, eat and drink. Probably it feels this way because it is true. Most popular food in Chicago is Deep Dish Pizza, a really thick pizza served in a pan. Several restaurants serve Deep Dish but local people advised us to go to Lou Malnatis. Despite from the ingredients it is not comparable to Italian Pizza but it is tasty as hell. As we all know desert stomach is a real thing we also got the sweet deep dish cookie for desert.

A more unknown food spot in Chicago is Au Cheval, a small diner famous for it's burger with gorgeous beacon. I noticed that the restaurant serves Stiegl beer (from Salzburg just like me) and the waiter told me that one of his favorite drinks is Stiegl Radler with Gin. He even made one and invited us. Two things you should be prepared for if you decide to visit Au Cheval:
- You can't reserve a table - you may have to wait a while.
- The smell of freshly baked brownies everywhere in this area.

Later that night we went out for drinks and we picked one of the fanciest speakeasies in Chicago. Hidden in a beautiful restaurant called The Guilt, you ask a waiter for The Library. You will be escorted downstairs to a hidden door behind the toilets. Behind that door is the speakeasy serving some of the best drinks I ever had. We had so much fun with the barkeeper that he also invited us for drinks. I also found my new favorite drink: Bar Germain. The couple next to us at the bar (germans who heard us talk) took us to another nice club but I am not able to remember the name or location.
