How a Postcard saved us
Niklas and I looked at each other, both thinking FUCK!! We knew that we did nothing wrong but we really worried if there might be something with the car and our plan of driving to Panama would fail after just three days. Filled with quite a bit panic we walked into the control station house. In there a officer already awaited us. Luckily everything was fine with the car but unfortunately when we came to the US the first time the man who was supposed to stamp our passports forgot to do so. Our officer told us this is also not really a problem, we just have to proof that we don’t want to stay in America.
Do you have jobs in Austria? No.
When do you plan on getting back? Well, we planned on traveling a few more months.
Our promises that we drive on to Mexico afer America were not enough for our officer. He was sometimes really nice but then he would ask his questions really sharp again.
A few questions further: Do you have any proof of your address in Austria? He was getting really helpful at this time and also revealed that he speaks perfectly german.
Irgendetwas wo eure Adresse drauf steht?
We searched and searched but neither our driving licenses nor anything else had the address on it. We started to get really desperate as we already showed him everything we got. He asked again if we could show him anything. So I showed him a postcard of the Filzmooser Kindl - the guardian angel of my little hometown. My Mom wrote on the back: Schöne Reise und komm bald wieder zurück.....
The officer with his german skills read it and it was enough for him! We could finally drive into the US again.
THANK YOU MAMA!!!!!
