Mexican Mechanics

On our way to Mexico City we got stopped three times by the police. On our way out of Mexico we also had to stop three times - this time it’s our car itself.

After Mexico City we spent a few days in the states of Yucatán and Quintana Roo which are definitely the tourist hotspots of México. In Merida we could stay at our Hostel for free because Niklas and me produced a video for them. Here we strolled around in the cute city and learned about Mayan culture. With friends from the hostel we drank Mezcals and ended up dancing all night in a open roof club in the Mexican heat.
In Holbox (pronounced Ho'bosch) we relaxed a day at the beach and swam at night in bioluminescent water. Sadly this place is way too touristy and so we decided to leave the next day to Belize and Guatemala. Marion a dutch girl decided to drive with us.

Half a day of driving later we reach Tulum where the car breaks down for the first time. We jokingly blame in on Marion because she broke up with her ex boyfriend here and now there is bad karma around. Jokes aside we still had the problem with the car. We found a car shop where the staff organized a mechanic for us. He kickstarted our battery with his own. For connecting the poles of the batteries he just used metal tools and his bare hands. It looked super scary but it worked and we drive on with the goal of reaching the border to Belize. A few hours later the car broke down again. Nothing worked anymore. Only now it was pitch black night and dark mexican roads are not a save place. Gladly most of the Mexican people we have met so far are very helpful and we found two men who changed our battery with theirs so we could drive to a friend of theirs who owned a hotel in the near city. The hotel owner promised us to help us the next day to get a mechanic and he did everything he could. After sending a boy with his bike through the whole town he could only report that one mechanic is gone, one is already drunk and the third is not working today. So we had to drive on the Chetumal, the last big town before Belize. Here we could find many mechanics.
We tried our luck and got really close: Four kilometers before the city the car stopped again. Also here a friendly man helped us. Jonathan, the owner of a tomato farm call his trusted mechanic who showed up fifteen minutes later and took our car to his working place. As a specialist for electronics he knew exactly what to do and three hours later our car was fixed for good. Finally we were able to cross the border to Belize.
Everybody we asked for help immediately helped us. Some people even offered help without asking or speaking english. Thank you all and big shoutout to Mexican Mechanics!
