Where is my Coffee from?
The package only reveals that the origin of the coffee is El Salvador. Now I also know the farm, the families who work there and the process from the seed to the cup.
Thanks to a video deal with Santa Cristina Specialty coffee, Niklas and me were able to visit three of their coffee farms near San Salvador. We got picked up in the morning by our very own driver for the day, Alejandro Flores. He also provided us with snacks, soft drinks and of course fresh coffee. Together we visited the different farms belonging to Santa Cristina.

We talked to the families who lived and worked on the farms and they showed us their plantages proudly. On the last farm we were able to see the process of picking the ripe red beans, the sorting of the good and bad, the drying in the sun on the so-called African beds and the weighing and packing. The whole family was participating.
Something that really impressed me was the diversity of fruits and vegetables grown at the farms. We were able to eat bananas, maracujas, oranges and more citrus fruits fresh from the tree.
After we finished filming the farms we drove to Rene, the owner of the brand and his wife Anaina. At their beautiful house in the enter of San Salvador we learned all about the history of the farms. They also showed us a lot of pictures and explained that the education of the families is really important to them. Therefore they organize special education which the workers have to attend regularly.
Overall, it was very interesting to see where the coffee I drink in Vienna is from and how the people who grow it live. Of course we only had a very short impression but all worker including their families seemed happy and even thankful to be able to manage the farms. All people involved with the production and distribution have a very special connection to the coffee. For me this makes the coffee even more enjoyable and valuable.
The video should be finished in the next few days and added here.
